There are a few options for heading to Plitvice Lakes depending on where you are staying. The easiest way is to rent a car and drive yourself. Driving is very easy in Croatia, if you hop on the E65 expressway you’ll barely pass another vehicle.

There are buses that run to Plitvice Lakes National Park from Zagreb and Zadar numerous times per day. Expect the journey to take at least an hour longer than if you drove yourself but this is a convenient option if you don’t want to rent a car.

Entrance & Fees to visit Plitvice Lakes National Park

One of the advantages of travelling in Croatia is that it’s not expensive.

The entrance fee to Plitvice Lakes National Park ranges depending on the season. High season tickets will set you back 250 Kuna (approx.$54 AUD), whereas low season is quite cheap at 60 Kuna (approx.$13AUD) per adult ticket.

Tickets for Plitvice can be purchased online only in advance, at least 2 days prior to your arrival.

However, I bought my ticket at the entrance on the day with no issues. Be sure to arrive first thing in the morning as the queue tends to get quite long during peak season.

I strongly recommend getting to the park in the early morning before it opens. You will take amazing pictures and will walk the park without a crowd. An hour and a half after it opens there are loads of tour buses that arrive and flood the park.

Make sure to bring some extra cash as the park has a couple of cafe’s and even a small souvenir shop so you can buy yourself a snack or some ice cream after a long day walking the trails. Believe me you’ll want an ice-cream by the end.
