If you’re wondering “is Tamborine Mountain worth visiting?”, the honest answer is:
👉 Yes—but only if you do it right.
Tamborine Mountain is one of the most popular hinterland escapes near Brisbane, known for its rainforest walks, wineries, and scenic views. But depending on how you visit, it can either feel like a hidden gem… or completely overrated.
In this guide, I’ll break down:
- what’s actually worth doing
- what to skip
- and where to stay for the best experience
⚠️ When Tamborine Mountain Feels Overrated
Tamborine Mountain might not feel worth visiting if:
- you only go for a quick day trip
- you spend all your time on Gallery Walk
- you visit during peak crowds
👉 This is where most people get it wrong.
🏡 Where to Stay (This Changes Everything)
Here’s the part most blogs don’t tell you:
👉 Staying on Tamborine Mountain isn’t always the best option.
Instead, I recommend staying just outside in
📍 Canungra
Why?
- quieter and less touristy
- more space and better views
- proper farm stay / hinterland experience
- still only ~20 minutes from Tamborine Mountain
My Recommendation: Country Mile Escape 👇
If you’re planning a trip and want something that actually feels special, this is what I’d recommend.
Why it stands out:
- peaceful farm stay setting
- cosy, aesthetic cabins (perfect for couples)
- ideal for a slow weekend escape
- close enough to explore Tamborine Mountain (25 mins)
👉 This is the kind of stay that turns a basic trip into a memorable experience
Things to do in Tamborine Mountain
1. Savour the taste of Tamborine Mountain’s Food and Wine
One of the best things to do in Tamborine Mountain is to indulge in its incredible food and wine scene. From boutique wineries to local cheese shops, the options feel endless—especially if you love a slow, scenic tasting experience.
When I visited, I chose to do a self-guided wine tour, and honestly, I’d highly recommend it. It gave me the flexibility to explore at my own pace—and saved a lot of money compared to organised tours.
A standout for me was Witches Falls Winery. They offer a fantastic range of reds, whites, and even apple cider tastings (yes, I did both). You can also order a platter of fresh local produce, including cheeses and cured meats—perfect for a relaxed afternoon.
Another must-visit is Fortitude Brewing Co., home to the Tamborine Cheese Company. This was easily one of my favourite experiences. I grabbed a charcuterie board from the cheese shop and paired it with a wine (and a beer paddle for my partner), making it the perfect laid-back lunch spot.
👉 Tip: Bring a cold bag so you can take home some of the local produce—you’ll definitely want to.

2. Feel on top of the world walking through lush rainforest
If you’re looking for unique things to do in Tamborine Mountain, the Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk is a must.
This 1.5km walk takes around an hour at a relaxed pace and is suitable for all fitness levels. It’s an easy way to experience the beauty of the rainforest without committing to a longer hike.
You’ll start among the treetops before making your way down to the forest floor, eventually reaching a 40-metre cantilever bridge suspended 30 metres above the rainforest.
👉 It’s scenic, accessible, and one of the most memorable ways to experience the landscape.
For something more adventurous, head to Thunderbird Park and take on the Treetop Challenge, including the Canyon Flyer zipline—perfect if you’re chasing a bit of adrenaline.
3. Indulge in Fine Wining & Dining
Not directly on Tamborine Mountain—but 100% worth the short drive.
✨ For a luxury experience:
Beechmont Estate
- Chef-hatted dining at The Paddock
- Paddock-to-plate, seasonal menu
- Perfect for a romantic night or special occasion
👉 I did the tasting menu—easily a highlight of the trip.
🌿 For a relaxed, scenic lunch:
Sarabah Estate Vineyard
- Laid-back winery setting
- Outdoor seating with countryside views
- Wine tastings + casual lunch options
👉 Think slow lunch, wine in hand, zero rush.
💡 Tip: Both are an easy drive from Canungra—perfect to pair with a hinterland stay.
4. Stroll along the Gallery Walk
No list of things to do in Tamborine Mountain is complete without a visit to Gallery Walk.
Located along Long Road, this strip is filled with:
- cafes and dessert spots
- chocolate and fudge shops
- boutique stores and local crafts
It’s a great place to wander, grab a coffee, and pick up something unique.
👉 Tip: It can get busy—so visit early or keep it short and sweet.
5. See the famous Glow Worm Caves
One of the more unique attractions on Tamborine Mountain is the Glow Worm Caves Tamborine Mountain.
Located at Cedar Creek Estate Vineyard & Winery, this is the world’s only purpose-built glow worm cave.
The experience is fully guided and designed to replicate a natural environment, complete with stalactites and stalagmites.
👉 After your tour, you can head straight into the winery for a tasting or stay for lunch—making it an easy addition to your day.
6. Go Hiking in Tamborine Mountain
If you enjoy nature, hiking is easily one of the best things to do in Tamborine Mountain.
Some of the most popular short walks include:
- Curtis Falls
- Cedar Creek Falls Lookout
- Cedar Creek Rock Pools
- MacDonald Circuit
For something slightly longer:
- Witches Falls Circuit
- Palm Grove Circuit
- Cameron Falls Circuit
👉 Most trails are beginner-friendly, making them perfect for a relaxed outdoor experience.
7. Take in the Scenic Views
Tamborine Mountain sits around 550 metres above sea level, meaning the views are seriously impressive.
Head to:
- Rotary Lookout (great for hot air balloons at sunrise)
- Hang Gliders Lookout (perfect for photographers)
On a clear day, you can see all the way from Tweed Heads to Moreton Bay.
👉 It’s one of the simplest but most rewarding things to do in Tamborine Mountain.
