Getting to the Yarra Valley

One of the biggest advantages of the Yarra Valley is its close proximity to Melbourne. Hop in a car heading North East and an hour later, you are cruising down the vineyard-lined roads in the valley, feeling like you are thousands of miles away from your day to day life.

The Yarra Valley is located 1 hour away from Melbourne by car. You can reach it via the Eastern Freeway to Maroondah Hwy. Alternatively, a number of companies also offer day tours to Yarra Valley which include visits the top Yarra Valley attractions, including to 4-5 wineries, gourmet lunch, and transportation to and from Yarra Valley. I booked with Yarra Valley A2B, and soon you’ll see why.

Must Visit Wineries in the Yarra Valley:

Warramunda Estate

Enjoy some some tastings of their more prominent reds paired with some homemade goats cheese at family owned vineyard and winery Warramunda Estate.

The estate itself is beautiful with a long road lined with trees on either side leading to their cellar door. Apparently it is Instagram heaven in autumn when all the leaves are red and orange!

You can tell this family is passionate about their wine as their wine tasting comes with a very informative and thorough introduction to each different wine they have produced.

Zonzo Estate

If there is any reason why you should visit the Yarra Valley, then it’s to visit Zonzo Estate! Walking inside the modern, imposing, architecturally-designed building that houses Zonzo Estate, it’s difficult to find fault.

Inside is an elegant and moody interior with stunning light fixtures and furnishings that make you feel like you just stepped into medieval times.

Be sure to make this your lunch stop and make sure you opt for the Zonzo Feast- you won’t be disappointed!

A Zonzo Feast includes an Antipasti, a round of Pizzas and slow cooked Lamb in red wine accompanied with roasted potatoes, salad and a glass of wine of your choice. I think the photos say everything that needs to be said, the food tasted as good as it looks!

Yileena Park

I’m so excited to share Yileena Park with you! This place was the highlight of my trip and another fantastic reason why you should visit the Yarra Valley!

Yileena Park is a cosy little cottage set on the base of a hill. This warm and intimate establishment is a family owned Cellar Door, Winery and Vineyard, something I tend to lean towards more than the bigger commercialized brands as the experience is always much more personal.

I was blown away by their warm and friendly service, the décor, the wine and the food! This was an experience like no other.

Pair your wine tasting with a platter of their delectable smoked goods and cheeses! Some of the mouth watering nibblies are paired with smoked condiments like apple cider vinegar, merlot infused smoked salt and my absolute favourite is their smoked kalamata olives!

Helen & Joey Estate

The amazing views you get from Helen & Joey Estate make it worth the visit alone. The establishment is prone to very busy weekends and may come off quite chaotic which could affect your experience with the wine tasting however, the spectacular views, the quirky Unicorns and spotting the local kangas in the vines makethis last stop a nice finish to the day.

Yarra Valley A2B

A friend referred me to Yarra Valley A2B, who offer private and customised tour packages in the Yarra Valley. I am so glad I booked with them because the ladies at A2B took care of everything! Our beautiful host Cath created an itinerary to suit our tastes, she drove us to and from the CBD and she had so much remarkable knowledge of Melbourne and the Yarra Valley being a local for so many years!
