Looking for the best things to do on Bribie Island for a weekend away? This easy little island escape has a bit of everything β beautiful beaches, waterfront sunsets, quirky attractions, great places to eat and plenty of opportunities to simply slow down.
Best of all, Bribie Island is an incredibly easy weekend getaway from Brisbane. Thereβs no ferry to organise and no huge road trip involved; you simply drive across the bridge and youβre there.
We recently spent a couple of nights in Woorim, where we stayed just metres from the beach and filled our weekend with sunset picnics, butterflies, seafood, stargazing and plenty of time by the ocean.
If youβre planning your own trip, here are some of our favourite things to do on Bribie Island, along with where to stay, where to eat and a few extra experiences worth adding to your weekend.
π‘ Where to Stay on Bribie Island
For our weekend, we stayed at Holiday House Bribie in Woorim, and its location ended up being one of the things we loved most about the stay.
When accommodation describes itself as being βclose to the beachβ, that can sometimes involve a generous interpretation of the word close. Here, Woorim Beach really is only a few metres down the road.
We could leave the house and be walking along the sand within minutes, which meant beach time never had to become a planned activity. If we felt like a morning walk, wanted to head down for a swim or noticed the afternoon light starting to look particularly good, we could simply grab our things and go.
Why we loved the location
ποΈ Woorim Beach just metres down the road
π IGA within easy walking distance
π΄ Restaurants and pubs nearby
β CafΓ©s and Woorim’s beachfront area close by
π‘ Fully self-contained accommodation
π₯ Private backyard with a firepit
Having so much within walking distance made the weekend feel particularly relaxed. We could pick up groceries, head out for something to eat or wander down to the beach without getting back in the car every time.
The house itself also gave us plenty of reason to stay in. One evening, we lit the backyard firepit and spent some time stargazing, which ended up being one of our favourite moments of the weekend.
It was exactly the kind of stay we wanted for Bribie: close enough to everything, but still somewhere we were happy to come back to and relax.

π Spend Some Time at Woorim Beach
Of all the things to do on Bribie Island, spending time at the beach is probably the easiest place to start.
Woorim Beach sits on the ocean-facing side of the island, so it has a completely different feel to the calmer waters around Pumicestone Passage. Here youβll find rolling surf, coastal dunes and a long stretch of sand that is perfect for a walk when youβre not doing much of anything in particular.
A few easy ways to enjoy Woorim Beach:
π Go for a morning beach walk
ποΈ Spend a few hours swimming and relaxing
πΈ Head down around golden hour for photos
π Wander along the shoreline and enjoy the ocean views
β Grab a coffee nearby and take it down to the beach
Staying in Woorim made this even better for us because we didnβt have to set aside a particular part of the day for the beach. It simply became part of the weekend.
If youβre deciding where to stay on Bribie Island and being close to the ocean is important to you, Woorim is definitely an area worth looking at.
π Have a Sunset Picnic at Sunset Park
One of our favourite moments of the entire weekend was also one of the simplest: packing a picnic and heading to Sunset Park at Banksia Beach for golden hour.
While Woorim faces the ocean on the eastern side of Bribie Island, Sunset Park sits on the western side overlooking Pumicestone Passage and the Glass House Mountains.
That makes it a gorgeous spot to watch the sun go down.
We brought along picnic goodies, set ourselves up on the grass and stayed while the afternoon light gradually changed over the water. If youβre visiting as a couple, itβs also such an easy way to add something a little romantic to a Bribie Island weekend without having to organise much at all.
π§Ί Pack for a sunset picnic
- A picnic blanket
- Grazing snacks or a cheese platter
- Wine or your favourite drinks
- A camera
- Something warm if the evening is breezy
Try to arrive before golden hour rather than right on sunset. The changing light across the passage is half the reason to go, and youβll have time to settle in instead of arriving just as the sun disappears.
π¦ Visit Bribie Island Butterfly House
For something completely different from the beaches, add Bribie Island Butterfly House to your weekend.
The tropical enclosure is filled with colourful butterflies flying freely around the gardens, making it one of the more unusual Bribie Island attractions and a surprisingly fun place to photograph.
Why itβs worth visiting
π¦ Hundreds of colourful butterflies
πΏ Lush tropical surroundings
πΈ Plenty of beautiful photo opportunities
πΊ A completely different experience from the beach
β° Easy to fit into a weekend without taking up the whole day
Itβs a lovely little stop because you can spend some time wandering through the sanctuary and still have most of the day left for the beach, lunch or exploring somewhere else on the island.
Tip: the Butterfly House has limited opening days and hours, so always check the official website before planning your visit.
π΄ Where to Eat on Bribie Island
A weekend away also needs some good food, and we found a couple of places that are worth adding to your list.
Whether youβre searching for Bribie Island restaurants, somewhere for a casual dinner or a waterfront lunch on the way to the island, these are two spots weβd happily recommend.
π¦ͺ The Oyster Shed at Sandstone Point
If your ideal Queensland weekend involves seafood beside the water, The Oyster Shed at Sandstone Point is a great place to stop.
Itβs actually located just before the Bribie Island bridge, making it particularly convenient for lunch either on your way onto the island or before heading home.
The setting is a big part of the appeal, with views across Pumicestone Passage and a relaxed waterfront atmosphere.
Expect plenty of:
π¦ͺ Oysters
π¦ Fresh seafood
πΉ Cocktails and cold drinks
π΄ Laid-back coastal atmosphere
π Waterfront views
Itβs the kind of place where you can settle in for a long lunch and immediately feel like the weekend has started.
ποΈ Dinner at Bribie Island RSL
Bribie Island RSL was one of the unexpected surprises of our stay.
We originally went purely for dinner β and really enjoyed the food β but discovered there was quite a bit more to see while we were there.
Around the RSL youβll find military memorabilia and historical displays, while outside thereβs an enormous former Australian Army tank and other pieces linked to Australiaβs military history.
So what started as a casual dinner also gave us a chance to have a look around and learn a little more about the history behind the RSL.
If youβre looking for a relaxed place to eat on Bribie Island, especially somewhere with a bit more character than we expected, itβs well worth considering.
ποΈ Bribie Island Accommodation Near Woorim Beach
We loved staying at Holiday House Bribie, but the exact property isnβt currently available through our usual accommodation booking partners.
If the part of our stay that appeals to you most is being based in Woorim close to the beach, there are several other properties worth checking for your dates.
π On The Beach Resort Bribie Island
On The Beach Resort Bribie Island is one of the strongest options if being close to Woorim Beach is your number-one priority.
The resort offers apartment-style accommodation along with an outdoor swimming pool and BBQ facilities, making it particularly suitable for a relaxed beach getaway.
π Oceanview Woorim
Oceanview Woorim is another option for travellers wanting easy access to the beach, with a beachfront location and balcony.
π‘ Eden Lodge
If you prefer the space and privacy of a holiday home, Eden Lodge is another Woorim option worth comparing for your dates.
π Seashore Sanctuary
For families, groups or anyone looking for a little more room, Seashore Sanctuary offers multiple bedrooms and bathrooms within easy reach of Woorim Beach.
π Compare More Bribie Island Accommodation
Availability can change considerably depending on the weekend, so itβs also worth comparing the wider range of stays available around Woorim and Bribie Island.
π Explore the Wilder Side of Bribie Island by 4WD
While plenty of things to do on Bribie Island are accessible in a normal car, some of the islandβs more remote beaches and national park areas require suitable 4WD access.
If you donβt have a 4WD β or would simply rather let somebody else handle the beach driving β joining a guided experience is an easy way to see a completely different side of Bribie.
4WD, Kayak & WWII Bunker Tour
One of the most interesting options combines several experiences into one trip:
π 4WD beach driving
πΆ Kayaking through the islandβs waterways
πͺ Visiting historic WWII bunkers
π Exploring more remote coastal scenery
π¦ Looking for local wildlife
Itβs a good addition if you want your weekend to include a little adventure alongside all the beach walks, sunsets and slow mornings.
You can also compare other tours and activities currently available on the island.

β€οΈ Is Bribie Island Worth Visiting for a Weekend?
If youβre looking for an easy weekend getaway from Brisbane, Bribie Island is a great option β particularly if you want somewhere coastal without spending hours travelling to get there.
In one weekend you can combine:
ποΈ Island atmosphere
ποΈ Surf beaches and long coastal walks
π
Sunsets across Pumicestone Passage
π¦ Quirky local attractions
π¦ͺ Waterfront seafood and relaxed restaurants
π 4WD adventures and national park scenery
π Plenty of time to switch off
For us, staying in Woorim made the trip particularly easy. Having the beach, shops and places to eat within walking distance meant we could explore when we wanted to, but never felt like we had to keep moving.
And thatβs probably what we liked most about Bribie Island: thereβs enough to fill a weekend, but absolutely no need to rush through it.
If youβre searching for the best things to do on Bribie Island, weβd happily recommend building your weekend around Woorim Beach, a sunset at Banksia Beach, the Butterfly House, some good food and plenty of time left over to enjoy being by the coast.
