How to get to the National Parks in Croatia

Zadar is one of my favourite cities in Croatia and is a perfect base for exploring the region such as visiting Krka Waterfalls, Kornati Islands and Plitvice Lakes. My recommendation would be to arrange a few nights stay in Zadar. From this beautiful little town you are central to all 3 of Croatia’s National Parks mentioned in this guide.

One of the easiest ways is to rent a car and drive yourself so you can choose how long you want to stay at each national park. Another option is to arrange day tours like we did to get to the Kornati Islands or Plitvice Lakes and Krka if you prefer not to hire a car.

Pltivice Lakes National Park

Visiting Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia was one of the best decisions I ever made! This beautiful UNESCO Heritage National Park is made up of 16 lakes that are connected by a series of waterfalls and is one of Croatia’s most popular tourist destinations. Get ready to take amazing photos of incredible, crystal clear, blue-green water!

Kornati Islands National Park

An excursion to the Kornati Islands in Croatia is a definite must! The only way to see this amazing nautical paradise is by boat and your day will consist of sightseeing dazzling blue, crystal clear waters against the raw beauty of the many large and small islets. The Kornati Islands is an archipelago that consists of 140 islands and 89 of these islands and islets belong to the Kornati National Park.  Be prepared to be charmed with the remote “desert island” feel!

Krka National Park

If you love waterfalls, then visiting the Krka Waterfalls in Croatia is a fantastic place to visit. These amazing waterfalls pouring into pools of crystal blue green water makes visiting Krka National Park just one of the many amazing destinations in Croatia. Visiting Krka National Park in Croatia is a little slice of waterfall heaven. Having previously travelled to Plitvice Lakes National Park I knew Croatia did waterfalls well. And with more than just waterfalls, you’ll have the opportunity to see travertines, ruins, caves and even get to enjoy a riverboat tour.
