Camel Desert Safari in Dubai

Everyone needs to experience a Camel Desert Safari at least once in their lifetime! Powder soft sand, camel rides in the desert, dreamy sunsets and dinner at an authentic Bedouin camp offer an experience of a lifetime that you cannot have anywhere else in the world. So when I started planning my trip, I knew I had to include a Camel Desert Safari in Dubai in order to have the ultimate bucket list experience!

The desert is one of the most unique locations I’ve ever been to, and the safari most definitely employs one of the most unforgettable moments of my life. If you’re planning to embark on a camel desert safari in Dubai, I would suggest preparing yourself for one heck of a ride. Literally. Especially for first timers, I think you will find the journey quite something!

Standing in the desert was both different and at the same time exactly how I imagined. I am filled with awe and wonder, trying to compare what I imagined, to the actual vast terrain before me. The ground isn’t a single earthy colour but a sometimes-red-sometimes-yellow-tinged sand so fine it melts through the spaces between your fingers.

How to Book a Camel Desert Safari in Dubai

When booking your desert safari tour, you want to be sure to find a reputable and reliable company. If you’ve done a quick Google search to see what your options are, you already know there are upwards of 100 different companies that offer similar packages. After doing some pretty extensive research I knew that Platinum Heritage was the best option.

It was important to me to find a tour company that was punctual, professional and would offer the best experience. I booked the Camel Desert Safari option for $240AUD/person. Yes it’s a pretty penny BUT it’s a once in a lifetime experience and there is great inclusions that makes it worthwhile like like a 4-course traditional Arabian dinner! Another major advantage of booking with Platinum Heritage was that the traditional Bedouin campsite is their own and is not shared among multiple tour companies. Why does this matter? It means you get a more attentive experience and a higher level of service.

The tour included pick-up from and drop-off to our hotel. Our land-cruisers arrived at our hotel around 2.30pm and were ready for us to hop in! The tour guides were genuinely friendly, informative and attentive of our needs.

Before we embarked on our traditional Camel ride in the desert our guides put on a Sheila/Ghutra (traditional headscarf) on our head and then let us take some photos with the 1950’s vintage Land Rovers!

Activities at the Torch-lit Bedouin Camp

  • Welcome snacks on arrival (Arabian coffee & sweets)
  • Live demonstrations of: Arabic coffee making and bread-making
  • Free Camel Rides at the campsite
  • Bedouin activities such as: henna tattoos, aromatic shisha, and posing with a majestic falcon
  • 4-course dinner of Arabic cuisine- see menu
  • Nightly entertainment with cultural Emirati performances such as drumming and Yola

Tips on things to know before you go

  • As it is warm in the Dubai desert, (especially during summer) I would recommend that you wear a hat, sunglasses, sun cream and comfortable loose clothing. The temperature may drop considerably after sunset so make sure you bring a a sweater or light jacket (just in case!)
  • Stay hydrated!
  • Take your camera — you’ll want to capture this memorable and unique experience!
  • A portion of your Desert Safari fee is contributed towards local conservation in Dubai.
