Rockpool, Melbourne

Rockpool, Melbourne is definitely a bucket list dining experience, a place everyone needs to try at least once in their lifetime.

The 15-cut steak list is impressive, name-dropping some of the best in beef – Blackmore, Cape Grim and Gunner. Seafood has a strong presence on the menu, too, with a crowd favourite being the “4 Raw Tastes of the Sea.” Sides form their own attraction and with prices this hefty, they should. Service can be distracted, though the wine list is represented with enthusiasm appropriate for a collection that offers great drinking at all price-points.

Located on the Southbank riverfront and in the Crown Casino mega entertainment precinct, Rockpool Bar & Grill Melbourne is a luxurious experience that makes you wish you earned more so you could dine there on a whim. It is part of the highly awarded Rockpool Group headed up by Australian Chef (you may have heard of him) Neil Perry. Their specialty is big, beautiful and bodacious bovine cooked every which way in a high end ‘steakhouse’ atmosphere.

I have been to this restaurant twice and the quality in food is unchanged from 7 years ago. The atmosphere puts you in the right mood, it is simple yet lavish. It isn’t overdone but still feels elegant.

The Food at Rockpool, Melbourne

My first time at Rockpool Melbourne, I ordered eye fillet steak and suffice to say, I have not stopped ranting and raving about it to this day. However I wanted to try something completely different so for starters I went a little out of my comfort zone and tried fresh oyster complimented with Mignonette Sauce. I’m not the biggest fan of Oysters, they are definitely an acquired taste, I personally enjoy them when made with a mornay sauce. Suffice to say, the oysters are fresh like they’ve just been plucked straight out of the ocean and dropped straight onto your platter!

The Four Raw Tastes of the Sea is recommended to eat one bite each from left to right. The experience that is like a party inside your mouth. The flavours go from tangy to buttery and every bite is mouth watering.

The King Prawns with Goats Cheese Tortellini, Burnt Butter, Raisins and Pine Nuts is a delightful meal that left me savouring each and every bite. The sweet flavour of the raisins compliment the soft and mild goats cheese and the burnt butter adds a delicious caramelisation to the pasta and prawns.
