Things to do in Tamborine Mountain

1. Savour the taste of Tamborine Mountain’s Food and Wine

The food and drink options of Tamborine Mountain seem like it’s endless. If you love wine, then you’re definitely going to love Tamborine Mountain. When I visited, I actually did a self tour of some of the wineries in the region and I do have very high recommendations for Witches Falls. They have an amazing range of red and whites, plus they also offer Apple Cider! You can choose to do wine or apple cider tastings (I did both!) as well as ordering a platter of fresh local produce such as some cheese and meat delicacies. There are definitely some options to do a wine tour with a local company but I liked going at my own pace and being able to choose where I go- I definitely saved a lot of money too as the tour options can get quite expensive!

Another recommendation for amazing food and wine is the Fortitude Brewing Company with the Tamborine Cheese Shop located within the premises. Wow, what a great experience that was! I was able to order a platter from the Cheese Shop and sit down with a glass of wine from the Fortitude Brewing company and enjoy a lovely lunch. They even sold beer tasting paddles which my partner enjoyed! The Charcuterie board gave me a lovely sample of the meats and cheese and other delicious ingredients they sold in the Cheese Shop which I then bought more of to take away with me to enjoy at a later time. Tip: If you visit Tamborine Mountain, be sure to bring a cold bag to store your consumables to keep them fresh.

2. Feel on top of the world walking through lush rainforest

The Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk is a fail safe way to see just how beautiful and worth it Tamborine Mountain is. The 1.5km walk takes about an hour at casual pace with plenty of opportunities for photo stops along the way. It’s also an easy hike for all fitness levels which can be a great alternative to the other hiking trails in the region and still get a good feel of the beautiful scenery. Start off by wandering through the treetops before traversing the forest floor leading up to a 40m long cantilever bridge sitting at 30m above lush greenery and views. A must do on your list of things to do in Tamborine Mountain.

For the adrenaline junkies, conquer your fear of heights on the Treetop Challenge at Thunderbird Park where you can sail through ancient rainforest on the exhilarating Canyon Flyer ziplines.

3. Indulge in Fine Dining

Not exactly within the Tamborine Mountain region but definitely a place that is worthwhile a visit is Beechmont Estate. This incredible Estate is about a 40min drive from Tamborine Mountain and is one of the most gorgeous places I have laid my eyes on and I have been around! Not only do they have a chef-hatted restaurant but they also provide luxury accommodation options- a great option for a little weekend getaway in luxury! The Paddock restaurant has a paddock-to-plate inspired menu built around produce sourced from local markets, their very own kitchen garden, and premier Australian producers. I couldn’t say no to their 5-course Paddock menu and it was worth every delectable cent! Having dinner here was actually the main highlight of this trip and is definitely worth a visit.

4. Follow the Gallery Walk

Park the car and take a stroll down Long Rd to explore all the different cafes including chocolate shops, arts and crafts and gift shops along the Gallery Walk. There is quite a lot to do and see here and is a great introduction to Tamborine Mountain.

5. See the famous Glow Worm Caves

Located on top of Tamborine Mountain at Cedar Creek Estate Vineyard and Winery, is the world’s only purpose-built Glow Worm Cave environment. Located in a rehabilitated rainforest, the man-made Glow Worm Cave was built to protect these amazing creatures. The cave is complete with very realistic formations such as stalagmites and stalactites and is accessible during a fully guided tour. After the tour ends, you can walk right up to the Winery and have yourself a wine tasting or even stay for lunch!

7. Enjoy the views

In the mornings you can see hot-air balloons floating below you from Rotary Lookout, and Hang Gliders Lookout is the spot to seek out for photographers and watch hang-gliders launch. Some other picks are Eagle Heights Resort, Golf Course Road, Magnetic Drive, Licuala Drive and Guanaba Road. Tamborine Mountain is 550m above sea level, so on a clear day, views can stretch from Tweed Heads up to Moreton Bay.
