This is my quick guide to spending 24 hours in Vienna. Vienna was our very last, short stop of our Euro Roadtrip before heading back home to Sydney, Australia. We didn’t have a lot of time to explore the beautiful city of Vienna, however it is definitely on my bucket list to come back and explore properly, including a visit to Salzburg! (I’m a huge Sound of Music fan!)
There isn’t much you can miss out on seeing in Vienna. Just walking you will see the streets are lined with beautiful buildings.
A quick guide on how to spend 24 Hours in Vienna
Visit a Vienna Coffee House
Give yourself the right start to your day and energise yourself at a traditional Vienna Coffee House.
Schonbrunn Palace
Next stop- Schonbrunn Palace. Your visit to Vienna would not be complete without seeing this grand palace with its beautiful gardens.
St Stephen’s Cathedral
Right in the centre of Vienna, you cannot miss this impressive Cathedral.
Stroll Along the Danube
The Danube is a long river connecting many parts of Europe and ends at the Black Sea. It is beautiful to walk along to enjoy sunset. (Or sunrise!)
Try some local authentic cuisine
There is a lot of delicious authentic dishes that originated from Austria. Definitely take the opportunity while you’re here and try the Wiener Schnitzel and an Apple-strudel. Yum!
Have dinner at Plachutta
Plachutta is a restaurant that serves the famous ‘Tafelspitz’, which is boiled broth with beef & other classic Viennese cuisine.
Your meal comes with instructions and guidelines on how to enjoy your meal the authentic Viennese way! First you get your pot of boiled beef in a broth with a side of your choice of filling for your soup. Then you spread your bone marrow onto toasted black bread and eat with your fingers! Once you have enjoyed your toast, take your meat from the broth and serve it with a side of fried potato rosti, vegetables, chive sauce and horse radish with apple.
This is an absolutely incredible food experience (for those meat lovers like me). Everything is so flavoursome, the beef just falls apart from your knife and fork. I highly recommend this place for a great, satisfying ending to your time visiting in Austria!
